Vote by Mail
No excuse is needed to vote by mail in Rhode Island.
Registered voters can vote absentee if you are unable to vote at your polling place on Election Day. Your absentee ballot application must be received 21 days before the election to your local board of canvassers.

Vote Early
In the 20 days leading up to Election Day, you can vote in person at your city or town hall or at a designated location during regular business hours.
What to Expect
on Election Day
On Election Day, polls are open from 7 AM to 8 PM ET.
Voter ID Requirements
You must bring a valid photo ID to vote. Acceptable forms of photo ID include:
- RI driver’s license
- US passport
- ID card issued by an educational institution in the United States
- US military identification card
- ID card issued by the US government or State of Rhode Island (RIPTA bus pass, etc.)
- Government issued medical card
- RI Voter ID card

Language Access
Section 203 of the Voting Rights Act requires certain jurisdictions to provide in-language voting materials in areas with a significant number of limited English proficient voters.
Section 208
Section 208 of the Voting Rights Act states that, “Any voter who requires assistance to vote by reason of blindness, disability, or inability to read or write may be given assistance by a person of the voter’s choice, other than the voter’s employer or agent of the employer or office or agent of the voter’s union.”
It is your right to bring your own interpreter to the polls, if you so choose.
