Internships

We are looking for college-aged undergraduate students, recent graduates or high school students who can demonstrate that they seek to gain hands-on experience in grassroots community development within a national organization. The APIAVote Internship Program strives to encourage and cultivate young AAPI student leaders to explore a career in the public sector or the political arena. This internship program will also provide hands-on experience and training on how to organize and implement voter activities to increase the participation of AAPIs in the electoral process.

General Internship

Expectations

  • Perform general assignments from the APIAVote team
  • Manage or assist with administrative tasks
  • Attend events or meetings on behalf of the organization focused on voting rights, election reform & redistricting.
  • Help develop programming and curriculums for APIAVote’s youth initiatives
  • Outreach – Increase awareness of APIAVote’s goals and the mission it serves to as wide of an audience as possible.
  • Organize – Assist in recruiting from one’s network to participate in APIAVote’s regional training.

The Virginia Chen Nonprofit Executive Internship

Named for APIAVote’s first “super volunteer,” the Virginia Chen Nonprofit Executive Internship is a program that will provide a proven youth leader with firsthand nonprofit leadership experience and training by working with APIAVote’s Executive Leadership Team. With this unique internship opportunity, you will gain insider exposure on how to run a national nonprofit organization effectively, with built-in leadership training and networking opportunities with industry stakeholders.

Expectations

  • Supporting the Executive Team’s cross-departmental communications
  • Participating in high-level strategic discussions
  • Receiving critical exposure to management-level decision-making processes while working closely with the Executive team
  • The Executive Intern will also receive individualized training and coaching to build their knowledge, skills, and network that can inform their future career path and find your voice as a leader of your community

Requirements for all Internship Applicants

  • Internships are expected to be in-person
  • Paid internships are exclusively for college-aged applicants
  • College-aged applicants are prioritized, but high schoolers are encouraged to apply
  • Unpaid internships are open to all applicants
